High School | Fall 2024: New Beginnings!
Hi! Welcome back all HS/MSers to school :) Hate it or love it, school is back in full swing and we are back to our “Fall” rhythm! Brian and I are stepping in as the HS youth leads as Kevin/Eva take a break this fall to tend to their son’s health needs - he’s making progress!
Little bit about us: we both graduated college in 2008 (yes, we are…old?) Brian graduated from Cal and is now Director of DevOps at Avetta, and Michelle graduated from UC Davis - did four years of elementary school teaching - and is now with their two kids, Maddie & Charlie. We’ve been engaged in college ministry with Acts2 Network the past 15+ years, and this past January 2024 we transitioned over to youth ministry with AYM (a subgroup of Acts2 Network). We love having young folks come over to our home, hang out, and help them navigate life while bringing in God’s word and truth to every aspect of life. It’s been fun hanging out with HSers at our place for AYM HS Fridays and we are looking forward to getting to know the youth!
This Fall we are challenging all of our high school students (& staff!) to dig deeper into the word of God by kicking off our weekly devos - you read that right, weekly devos! We have some HS boys meeting as early as 6am, and girls too - 6:30am :). We recently talked about using Scripture in your life to defend ourselves against Satan’s temptations (see Luke 4). And, I recently realized Jesus only used one book of the Bible (Deuteronomy) to fend off Satan - he’s the real one.
We also kicked off our Fall season at LQ High School (“Volleyball Sunday”) and have been busy on the volleyball court with last season’s friends and many new ones! Coach talks have been focused on “habits” - and how it’s the little habits that help build character on and off the court. This past Sunday we talked not only about building character, but living purposefully. What do you live for, what brings you purpose? Our “coaches”/mentors had a chance to share their own story. We ended with scrimmage - Team Kimchee took the gold & will be treated to boba this coming Sunday! Lastly, shout out to Aztecs Frosh Girls Volleyball for taking the win against Whitney yesterday!
